Keokuk Junction Railway Santa Train and Pioneer Railcorp Santa Visit

On Saturday, December 10, 2011, Keokuk Junction Railway Co. will be operating its annual Santa Train as an effort to provide a fun, interactive, outside the classroom educational opportunity for railroad safety that involves not only children, but also adults.  Santa Claus will join Keokuk Junction Railway Co. employees and those of other Pioneer Lines who volunteer their time, and will make six stops along the KJRY's railroad line to visit children, provide railroad safety demonstrations and to confirm their Christmas lists.  

New this year, with all ticket proceeds benefiting the Salvation Army's Canton Corps, are passenger rides from three, one-way stops: Mapleton-Glasford, Glasford-Breeds, and Breeds-Rawalts. Iowa Northern Railway Company has generously donated a passenger car, and Iowa Northern Railway Company, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway Co., Iowa Interstate Railroad, and Tazewell and Peoria Railroad have donated the passenger car train movement.

Our complete schedule is as follows:

• Mapleton at Mapleton Road - 8:30am
• Glasford at Oak Street (near City park) - 9:35am
• Breeds at Co. Road 23 - 11:20am
• Rawalts Siding (just outside of Canton) passenger car stop – noon
• Canton at 20th Street (west of Bradley Road) - 1:30pm
• Canton at 2nd Avenue (near former TP&W Railroad Office) - 2:45pm
• Cuba at 3rd Street - 4:45pm

In addition to the Keokuk Junction Railway Santa Train, on Sunday, December 11, 2011 Santa will be stopping by for a visit at Pioneer Railcorp’s Corporate Headquarters in Peoria, Illinois.  Children will have the opportunity to meet Santa aboard his stationary caboose.
